7 Things to Check Before You Buy a Hydrogen Water Bottle
Hydrogen bottles look alike in photos. The differences that matter are in the lab report, the minutes behind the number, the membrane and the fine print. Here is what to look for, and how our three bottles answer each check.
This is Piurify's own guide. We make the bottles it describes, and every “How Piurify measures up” answer comes from our lab reports, product specs and published policies.
A hydrogen water bottle is a small electrolysis machine you carry around. Built well, it gives you fresh hydrogen-rich water in minutes, wherever you are. These seven checks take about five minutes, and they work for any brand, including ours.

A Third-Party Lab Report You Can Open
Hydrogen is the one spec you can't check by eye. Bubbles aren't a measurement, and a TDS meter can't read dissolved hydrogen because hydrogen isn't a mineral. The proof that counts is a report from a named lab, with a report number, a date and a signature.
Red flag: a “certified” badge with no report behind it, or a number with no lab named.

“Very long story short with multiple emails to the company. I'm keeping the bottle. They have third party testing confirmation of the ppb.”
The Minutes Behind the Number
Hydrogen keeps building the longer a bottle runs, and it keeps building when cycles run back to back with the cap closed. So an “up to” number depends on minutes. A fair spec tells you how long the bottle ran, and whether that was one program or several in a row.
Watch the units too. In drinking water, 1 mg/L equals 1 ppm, and 1 ppm equals 1,000 PPB. So 4.09 mg/L, 4.09 ppm and 4,090 PPB are the same reading.
Red flag: a big “up to” figure with no minutes and no lab.
Measured Hydrogen by Cycle Time
Parts per billion (PPB), H2 AnalyticsA True SPE/PEM Membrane
SPE/PEM is the design used in quality hydrogen generators: a proton-exchange membrane sits between the electrodes, so the water you drink gets the hydrogen while by-products are vented away from it. It also means the bottle works with ordinary drinking water.
Red flag: specs that never name the membrane design.

A Sealed, Pressurized Chamber
Hydrogen dissolves better under pressure. In a sealed bottle, pressure builds during the cycle and pushes more hydrogen into the water than could dissolve in an open glass. That's also why back-to-back cycles work: the cap stays closed and the pressure keeps doing its job.
The flip side: hydrogen starts to leave the moment you open the cap. Drink it right after the cycle.
Red flag: no mention of a sealed chamber or a pressure relief valve.

A Battery and Display You Can Live With
You'll use a hydrogen bottle several times a day, and back-to-back cycles use more charge. Check how many cycles one charge gives you, how it charges, and whether you can see the battery level and the time left.
Red flag: no battery figure, or a charger only that brand sells.

“I love this bottle! It's easy to use and portable. I wish it had more water capacity but that may come in time.”
A Warranty That Outlasts the Novelty
A hydrogen bottle has a battery, electronics and a membrane. Look for a warranty measured in years, not months, and a company that actually answers when you write.
Red flag: a short warranty on a device you'll use every day.
“If you are on the fence about getting this bottle, get it. Hard to find a company these days that stand behind their product and will go above and beyond to fix an issue.”
A Return Window With Clear Terms
You won't know how a bottle fits your routine until you've used it for a few weeks. Look for at least 30 days to return it, and read exactly what happens if you do.
Red flag: no return window, or no written return policy.

Who These Hydrogen Water Bottles Aren't For
- You want one big bottle to sip all day. Our largest, the 17 oz with handle, holds 500 mL per fill.
- You only want glass. None of the three is glass.
- You're looking for a treatment for a health condition. Please talk to your doctor. Our bottles make hydrogen-rich drinking water; they aren't a treatment.

Choosing a Hydrogen Water Bottle: Quick Answers
Why not just test the water at home?
Home meters and drops can't match a lab. Dissolved hydrogen escapes quickly, and TDS meters don't detect it at all. Labs use gas chromatography, which measures dissolved hydrogen directly. That's why the signed lab report is our measurement.
What is an SPE/PEM hydrogen water bottle?
It is a bottle whose electrolysis cell has a proton-exchange membrane between the electrodes. The water you drink gets the hydrogen, while by-products are vented away from it, and the bottle works with ordinary drinking water. All three Piurify bottles use a proton-exchange membrane between two platinum electrodes.
Are PPB, ppm and mg/L the same thing?
They are the same measurement in different units. In drinking water, 1 mg/L equals 1 ppm, and 1 ppm equals 1,000 PPB. So 4.09 mg/L, 4.09 ppm and 4,090 PPB are the same reading. Always check the minutes behind the number too.
Which bottle should I choose?
The 10 oz if you want the most compact bottle for a bag. The 17 oz with handle if you want the most water per fill at home or work. The Flask if you want the highest single-program result and the biggest battery.
Does it work with tap water?
Yes. Filtered, tap or distilled drinking water all work. The lab reports note the SPE/PEM design works regardless of mineral content.
How long does the hydrogen stay in the water?
Hydrogen starts to leave once the cap is opened, so you get the most when you drink right after a cycle.
